DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
David Acres came to America in the Fall of 2013 after meeting his wife in the Summer of 2012 at Wells Cathedral in England. David started his musical career as a boy chorister in Exeter Cathedral in Devon, England. He trained under Lionel Dakers and Robin Gritton in voice and choral directing in his late teens and early twenties, and went on to found and run several choral ensembles, including the critically acclaimed chamber choir Counterpoint - www.counterpoint-uk.com. Over the years David has sung with many choral ensembles and has performed in France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Northern Ireland, Norway and Italy. He has recorded Early Music and Baroque CDs for Hyperion, Decca, Herald, ASV, Nimbus and Priory and he currently co-runs and directs the Charleston-based choir, The King's Counterpoint. In addition to being a member of the Staff at Old St. Andrew's, David and his wife Judith are members of this wonderful parish, and have the added joy of working together at the church: Judith is the Assistant to the Music Director, and leads the Old St. Andrew's Handbell Choirs, is the parish Webmaster, and is a section leader with the Parish Choir.
BRAD NETTLES JR.
DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY
Brad Nettles Jr. and his family joined Old St. Andrew's when he was in elementary school. He graduated from West Ashley High School and went on to graduate from Anderson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry. While at Anderson he was a summer intern at Christ St. Paul's Parish and following his graduation he was the Youth Apprentice for a year at St. John's Parish on John's Island. He was married to his wife and high school sweetheart, Amanda VanValkenburg Nettles, in 2011 at Old St. Andrew's. They have a son named Bradley and a daughter named Annie Margaret. He enjoys playing with his children, watching and attending sporting events, and hanging out with family and friends.
ASSISTANT TO THE MUSIC DIRECTOR, WEBMASTER, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Dr. Judith Acres holds both Masters and Doctoral degrees in Historical Performance Practices from Case Western Reserve University, OH, as well as her Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from The College of Charleston, SC, with additional post-graduate work at the University of Texas at Austin and the Indiana University Institute of Early Music where she studied performance practices, music history, opera and theater. Judith has held positions as Lecturer and Adjunct Faculty in music history, vocal pedagogy, graduate research methodology and applied voice at both Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, as well as Adjunct Voice Faculty at The College of Charleston, SC. She is ever-active as guest faculty and lecturer for workshops, special events, and continuing and community education forums. In addition to being a member of the Staff at Old St. Andrew's, Judith and her husband David are members of this wonderful parish, and have the added joy of working together at the church, where David serves as Director of Music.
