Learn about the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA)
Sundays in January
The Diocese of South Carolina will be voting at its annual convention in March 2017, on whether to affiliate and become a member diocese of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).
Beginning Sunday, January 8, Old St. Andrew's will have a series of three Sunday School forums at 10:00 a.m. in Gilchrist Hall, focusing on ACNA. These three classes, 45 minutes each, will lead up to our Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 29, when our congregation will be asked to vote on a resolution encouraging our four delegates to the Diocesan Convention in March, 2017, to vote in favor of the Diocese of South Carolina joining ACNA. Our three classes will focus on the following general topics:
Sunday, January 8: What is the current status of our Diocese, the Anglican Communion worldwide, and the ACNA? What is the history and structure of the ACNA?
Sunday, January 15: What are some of the major theological characteristics of the ACNA, particularly in contrast to The Episcopal Church (TEC), on such topics as beliefs about Jesus Christ, holy matrimony, women's ordination and women as rectors and bishops?
Sunday, January 22: What, if anything, will be different if our Diocese joins ACNA? How does our Bishop Mark Lawrence feel about affiliation with ACNA? What other questions might we want to discuss?
